Gold, Reimagined: Our Commitment to Fairmined Certified Gold, Recycled Metals & Conflict-Free Diamonds
More than twenty years ago, Julez began making jewelry outside of San Diego, far from the jewelry district in Los Angeles and the traditional pathways into fine jewelry manufacturing.
At the time, she didn't even know you could purchase pre-alloyed 14k gold.
So she learned to refine and alloy gold herself.
That process unintentionally became part of the DNA of Julez Bryant. The warm yellows. The rich rose tones. The signature hue our longtime clients instantly recognize. What began as necessity slowly became identity.
Today, that same reverence for material still guides everything we create.
What Is Fairmined Certified Gold?
Fairmined is an assurance label that certifies gold sourced from responsible artisanal and small-scale mining organizations. These are communities — often in South America and other parts of the world — that have committed to rigorous environmental, social, and labor standards.
When gold carries the Fairmined certification, it means:
- Miners receive fair wages and work in safe conditions
- Environmental practices minimize land disruption and prohibit the use of mercury and other harmful chemicals
- Communities receive an additional Fairmined premium to invest in local development — schools, healthcare, infrastructure
- Full traceability from mine to market, so you know exactly where your gold comes from
Choosing Fairmined gold is a direct investment in the people and places where precious metals begin their journey.
Recycled Precious Metals
Our gold is also crafted using recycled precious metals — reclaimed from existing jewelry, industrial sources, and refineries. Gold has always been recycled. Melted down. Reborn. Passed from one generation to the next.
We just believe the process should be intentional from the very beginning.
Conflict-Free Diamonds & the Kimberley Process
The same philosophy extends to the diamonds we set.
All diamonds used in Julez Bryant pieces are conflict-free, sourced in compliance with the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) — an international initiative established in 2003 to eliminate the trade of rough diamonds used to finance armed conflict against governments.
The Kimberley Process requires that participating countries certify diamonds as conflict-free before they can enter the global market. Every rough diamond is accompanied by a government-issued certificate, and participating nations must meet strict requirements around chain-of-custody and transparency.
We work exclusively with suppliers who adhere to these standards, ensuring that every diamond in a Julez Bryant piece has been ethically mined and responsibly traded.
Jewelry That Begins in the Earth
Because jewelry begins long before the final polish. It begins in the earth.
Even our JB mark carries that philosophy. Inspired by the Pi symbol, our logo serves as a quiet reminder that what we take from the earth should someday return to her. That we are only temporary stewards of these materials, shaping them into heirlooms that outlive us.
We just believe the process should be intentional from the very beginning.
